Learn how the Yoshimura AT2 stainless slip-on exhaust sounds and fits on the KTM 890 Duke R and 790 Duke. Includes installation steps and sound notes.
Quick Answer
The Yoshimura AT2 stainless slip-on exhaust fits the KTM 890 Duke R (2020-2021) and 790 Duke (2019-2020) without modifications. It delivers a deeper, more aggressive tone than stock while reducing weight by several pounds.
Sound Profile
The AT2 muffler uses a tapered core design that produces a full, throaty note at idle and a sharp bark under acceleration. On the 890 Duke R's 889cc parallel-twin, you get a deeper growl compared to the stock can. Expect a moderate increase in volume—noticeable but not obnoxious for daily riding.
If you prefer a quieter ride, the AT2 includes a removable baffle. Installing it reduces sound output by roughly 3-5 dB, making it more neighbor-friendly while still improving the exhaust note.
Fitment Considerations
The AT2 slip-on is a direct bolt-on replacement for the stock muffler. It uses the factory mounting points and does not require any cutting or welding. The stainless steel construction resists corrosion and matches the bike's stock hardware.
One trade-off: the AT2 muffler is slightly longer than the stock unit, so you'll need to check clearance with aftermarket rear sets or tail tidy kits. In most cases, it clears without issue, but riders with aggressive rearsets should verify fitment before tightening.
Installation Steps
- 1. Remove the stock muffler: Loosen the clamp at the mid-pipe connection and the mounting bolt near the passenger peg. Slide the stock muffler off the mid-pipe. If it's stuck, gently twist while pulling—do not use excessive force that could damage the mid-pipe. Check that the mid-pipe end is clean and free of debris before installing the new muffler.
- 2. Install the AT2 slip-on: Slide the AT2 muffler onto the mid-pipe until it seats fully. Align the mounting bracket with the frame tab. Hand-tighten the clamp and mounting bolt, then adjust the muffler angle so it sits parallel to the swingarm and clears the rear tire. Leave all fasteners slightly loose until you confirm alignment—tightening too early can cause misalignment.
- 3. Torque and test: Torque the mounting bolt to 25 Nm (18 ft-lb) and the clamp to 10 Nm (7 ft-lb). Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks at the joint. Let the bike idle for 2 minutes, then rev gently to confirm the muffler doesn't vibrate against the frame or swingarm. If you hear a ticking or rattling, re-check the clamp tightness and muffler clearance.
