Exhaust Hardware and Service Parts: What to Keep on Hand

Build a smarter spares kit by matching each exhaust replacement part to the failure it prevents. Learn which clamps, inserts, and service parts earn a spot on your shelf.

Quick answer

Keep a small shelf of exhaust hardware kit items that match the failures your bike actually sees: a spare muffler clamp, a sound insert or spark arrestor insert if your system uses one, and a left-hand muffler assembly if a tip-over is likely. Buy by exact system and outlet size, not by guessing a universal fit. If you are unsure of the size, call Yoshimura sales before ordering.

Match the spare part to the failure, not the catalog page

A useful spares shelf starts with a short list of what actually breaks or goes missing. Clamps loosen, get lost during a swap, or strip. Inserts get removed for a track day and never make it back into the muffler. A tip-over can grind a hole into a muffler body. Each of those has a different replacement part, and buying the wrong one just moves the problem to the next ride.

Write down the exact system on your bike before you order anything: model, year, and whether the muffler outlet is the standard or big-outlet version. That single note prevents most wrong-part orders.

Clamps and small hardware: cheap insurance

Muffler clamps are not complicated, but they are the part that tightens the connecting points on your system. When one is missing or worn, the joint can leak or the muffler can move. Because they are inexpensive, keeping the correct one on hand is one of the easiest ways to avoid a weekend lost to a parts order.

The catch is sizing. Clamps are system-specific, and a clamp that looks close may not seal correctly. If you cannot find the one you need, contact Yoshimura directly rather than substituting a hardware-store clamp.

Inserts and spark arrestors: keep the one your system uses

If your exhaust uses a sound insert or a spark arrestor insert, that insert is a removable part and removable parts go missing. A sound insert changes volume; a spark arrestor insert is the USFS-approved piece for areas that require it. Both are small, easy to misplace, and annoying to be without on a riding day.

Check the outlet size before buying an insert. Inserts are made for a specific muffler outlet diameter, and an insert for a larger outlet will not fit a standard one.

Muffler assemblies: when to repair and when to replace

A tip-over can munch a muffler or grind a hole into the side. Sometimes that damage can be repaired; sometimes buying a new muffler is the cheaper path. The deciding factor is usually how much material is gone and where the damage sits, so get an opinion before assuming the worst.

If you do replace, the replacement must match the application. Mufflers are made for street or MX/off-road use and in aluminum, stainless, or carbon, and those are not interchangeable.

Decision rules for your spares shelf

  • Buy a spare clamp when the joint is disturbed often: If you remove or refit your muffler more than once a season, a spare system-specific clamp is worth having. Match it to the exact system, such as the RS3 clamp for RS3 fitment. One correct clamp beats three universal ones.
  • Buy an insert only after confirming outlet size: Measure or look up your muffler outlet. The AT2 sound insert fits only the 2.375-inch big-outlet titanium race muffler, not the standard 2.25-inch outlet. Wrong outlet size means the insert does not fit at all.
  • Repair the muffler before replacing it: A ground-in hole or munched tip can sometimes be repaired. Get that assessed first; if the damage is too extensive, a replacement assembly is the practical choice. Repair first, replace when repair no longer makes sense.
  • Replace with the same application and material: Mufflers are built for street or MX/off-road use and in aluminum, stainless, or carbon. A replacement should match your original application and material. Same application, same material, same fitment.

Service parts worth knowing

  • 3901605501 LEFT-HAND MUFFLER ASSEMBLY, SS/SS: LEFT-HAND MUFFLER ASSEMBLY, SS/SS is a stainless muffler assembly for left-hand fitment, offered for street or MX/off-road applications. This is the replacement path when a tip-over has damaged the muffler body beyond a practical repair, and the left-hand orientation matters for fitment.
  • RS3 Muffler Clamp 8m/Long Carbon Fiber: RS3 Muffler Clamp 8m/Long Carbon Fiber is a system-specific clamp used to tighten the connecting points on your Yoshimura exhaust. A correct spare clamp keeps a joint sealed and prevents a loose muffler, and the RS3 fitment means it is not a universal part.
  • SOUND INSERT KIT AT2 RACE MUFFLER (INS-37-K): SOUND INSERT KIT AT2 RACE MUFFLER (INS-37-K) fits only AT2 2.375-inch titanium race mufflers with the big outlet and will not fit the standard AT2 2.25-inch outlet. If you ride an AT2 system, confirming the outlet size before ordering avoids a return and a missed ride day.
  • RENEGADE SPARK ARRESTOR KIT: RENEGADE SPARK ARRESTOR KIT is the replacement spark arrestor insert kit for the Renegade USFS-approved kit and includes the insert tube and set screw. Keeping the correct insert on hand means you stay legal in spark-arrestor-required areas without waiting on a shipment.

Who this spares approach fits

Best for

  • Riders who service their own exhaust and want to avoid downtime
  • Owners of Yoshimura systems with removable inserts or clamps
  • Anyone who has damaged a muffler in a tip-over and wants to compare repair versus replacement

Not for

  • Riders who want a universal hardware kit that fits any exhaust
  • Owners who have not confirmed their exact system, model, and outlet size
  • Anyone expecting a single part number to cover multiple muffler generations
