Step-by-step instructions to install a Yoshimura fender eliminator kit on your Z125 PRO (BR125) 2017-2026. Includes tips for a clean, DOT-compliant setup.

Quick answer

Installing a Yoshimura Z125 PRO fender eliminator kit cleans up the rear end in about an hour with basic hand tools. The kit includes new LED lighting and shrink-solder connectors for a reliable, DOT-compliant result.

What you need before starting

The Yoshimura kit is designed for USA-spec license plates measuring 4" x 7" with 5-3/4" horizontal and 2-3/4" vertical hole spacing. Verify your plate dimensions before you begin.

You will need a Phillips screwdriver, a 10mm socket or wrench, wire cutters/strippers, a heat gun or lighter for the shrink-solder connectors, and a clean work area.

Common pitfalls to avoid

Rushing the wiring step is the most frequent mistake. The kit uses heat-shrink solder sleeves that require even heating to create a weatherproof seal. Overheating can damage the insulation; underheating leaves the connection exposed.

Another common issue is misaligning the license plate bracket with the LED light housing. Dry-fit all parts before tightening hardware to avoid cross-threading or cracking the plastic.

Installation steps

  1. Remove the stock fender and hardware: Unbolt the stock fender using a 10mm socket. Disconnect the turn signal and license plate light connectors. Set aside the original hardware—you may need the bolts for the new bracket. Keep the stock rubber grommets if they are in good condition; the new bracket often reuses them.
  2. Assemble the new bracket and LED light housing: Attach the LED light housing to the Yoshimura bracket using the supplied screws. Do not fully tighten yet. Slide the weather-seal gasket into place between the housing and bracket. Check that the gasket sits flat—any gap lets moisture enter the housing.
  3. Route and connect the wiring: Strip about 1/4 inch of insulation from each wire end. Insert both wires into a heat-shrink solder sleeve. Heat the sleeve evenly until the solder melts and flows, then let it cool. Repeat for all connections. Do not twist wires before inserting—the solder sleeve works best when the wires overlap inside the tube.
  4. Mount the license plate and bracket: Align your plate with the bracket holes (5-3/4" horizontal, 2-3/4" vertical). Use the included bolts and nylon lock nuts. Tighten the bracket-to-subframe bolts to 8-10 ft-lb. Over-tightening can crack the bracket or strip the threads. Use a torque wrench if available.
  5. Test all lights and secure the wiring: Reconnect the battery and test the brake light, turn signals, and license plate light. Zip-tie any slack wiring to the subframe away from moving parts and the exhaust. A loose wire can rub against the tire or chain. Route it along the frame rail for safety.
